Ah Medical Billing

I asked the hospital for a detailed bill for all of 2010 for Jesse. It’s paid I just wanted to know.

When it arrived in the mail yesterday… I opened it. They charge $38.30 for 17grams packets of Miralax! This is one serving! I can buy a bottle of Miralax at Walmart for cheaper.

Then I looked at how they listed me as related to Jesse…. grandparent. Grandparent! Well the girls are always calling me grandma… Where is their mother?!

Clinic Visit January 28

Today Jesse and I made the trip to CHKD (Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughter) for her labs.  Left home at 6:20, and made really good time. We were signing into clinic at 7:40. Our appointment was for 8:45. I know an hour ahead of schedule… but wait too long and the traffic line going through the MidTown Tunnel is berserk! I have no idea why they decided mashing 3 lanes to 1 was going to work … and that people will be courteous.

Jesse is coughing a little, so she wore a mask our entire clinic visit. I figured we’d end up in isolation, but since she was fever free she was able to play.

Currently she is neutraphenic.  I felt she might be because we are 10 days out from the start of her last chemo session, and she has been napping during the day. Jesse is not a napper. She comes by that honestly. When she sleeps during the day, I know that something isn’t 100% with her.

Her platelets were 20. Our oncology doctor felt that it was best to give her some platelets. This takes about 45 minutes to infuse. I really was expecting that she might need red blood cells, which can be a 4 hour process.

We started platelets at 1pm. I overheard someone say that they had a hard time finding platelets. Jesse handled waiting very well. We just kept telling her that Fred (her IV pole) was getting ready. Plus she had a little boy to play with that is only 6 months older than her. She would wonder off, and he would yell for her to come back. They played very well together.

The platelets gave her a little boost of java. And being on the pole she thought we were getting admitted. She was pretty upset that we didn’t go upstairs to see our friends.

At 3, we headed for home along with everyone else. We got back here about 5.
